Gender-Affirming Hormone Therapy

Informed Consent Care for Adults & Adolescents

CoVA Care provides gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) using
an informed consent model — no therapist letter required to begin
care. We believe access to gender-affirming care should be
straightforward, respectful, and centered on you.

Our approach follows WPATH Standards of Care (SOC-8) and is
grounded in shared decision-making. We take time to discuss your
goals, answer your questions, and build a treatment plan that fits
your needs and timeline.

- Feminizing hormone therapy — estrogen and anti-androgen options
- Masculinizing hormone therapy — testosterone therapy
- Comprehensive lab monitoring and dose adjustments
- Informed consent model — no letter from a therapist required
- Care for both adult and adolescent patients, with parent/guardian
involvement for minors per WPATH guidelines
- Referrals and coordination for gender-affirming surgical care
- Ongoing follow-up and medication management

What is the difference between perimenopause and menopause?

Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause, often beginning in your 40s, when hormone levels start to fluctuate.
Menopause is officially reached when you have gone 12 consecutive months without a period. CoVA Care provides care for both stages.

Is hormone therapy safe?

For most healthy individuals, hormone therapy is safe and highly effective for managing menopause symptoms. At CoVA Care, we review your full health history and customize your treatment plan based on current evidence-based guidelines. We discuss all options —
hormonal and non-hormonal — so you can make an informed decision.

Do you offer non-hormonal treatment options?

Yes. We offer evidence-based non-hormonal options for patients who prefer to avoid or cannot use hormone therapy, including lifestyle
modifications, supplements, and FDA-approved non-hormonal medications.

Do I need a referral to be seen at CoVA Care?

No referral is needed. You can book directly through our patient portal or by contacting our office.

What insurance does CoVA Care accept?

We currently accept Tricare/Humana Sentara Health Plan, and Anthem BCBS. Self-pay patients are welcome and superbills are available upon request for out-of-network reimbursement.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Appointments can be booked online through our portal. If you have questions or need assistance, our support team is available to help.
